Kasey Kaufman is an Extraordinary Nurse. When my boyfriend of 11 years was admitted to Mayo Hospital with pneumonia and told that he was going to have lung surgery, I couldn't have asked for a more compassionate, patient, loving nurse watching over him and taking care of me. When she spoke with M she always included me in the conversation. Each time she entered M's room she was smiling and had such a positive attitude; she took the time to answer any questions that either one of us had and always asked if I needed anything, which I found to be above and beyond her duties.
M was also diagnosed with diabetes which was a frightening discovery and a lot for both of us to take in but Kasey was there to answer any questions that we had and reassure us that it wasn't the end of the world and once again, handled it beautifully and made both of us feel better about it.
The day that M was discharged Kasey was on duty. She sat with us and went through line by line the medication that M was prescribed (it was also color-coded for clarity), the times that he would need to report for his antibiotic infusion and when he was to see his doctor. It made it easy for us to comprehend and it kept us on track for his at-home recuperation.
The day that we left Mayo I hugged her because I felt such a bond with her and cried. You are very lucky to have Kasey Kaufman on your staff, she is one in a million.
