Ann is an exceptional nurse, devoted and knowledgeable. She is always professional, seeking out all opportunities to impart her wisdom and passion for nursing. Her peers frequently recognize Ann as a skilled team player. In her current position at Kids Care Clinic, Ann is responsible for a variety of duties. This requires the ability to have extensive knowledge in all these specialty areas, as well as, the ability to work well with many disciplines. She is a nursing leader. She approaches each situation with calmness and clarity. Her colleagues and all specialty clinics she serves depend upon her. Ann is respected amongst her peers, largely due to her ability to foresee potential barriers and encourage cooperation among many teams for appropriate solutions. Ann often goes beyond, self-raising the bar of her own expectations, to the point it has become the norm for her to perform at a high level all the time. She consistently takes the time to ask meaningful questions of patients and works collaboratively to get patients everything needed or desired. Ann has the ability to recognize mental health needs during medical visits and successfully connect patients to those services in a non-stigmatizing manner.
Another colleague remembers Ann assisting her with a patient who needed monthly antibiotic injections. This patient was very fearful and would get upset and cry with the injection. Ann tried different techniques to help with her fear. When these did not help, Ann arranged for Child Life to come to the clinic during the visit so they could help with her fear of needles. The compassion Ann had and by her using the resources at hand, did ultimately help with this patient's fear.
Ann has a very kind and generous heart and spirit; a nurse for over three decades, caring and professional with all she interacts. Ann has proven herself to have the caring qualities and the intellectual creativity that makes her a truly Extraordinary Nurse.
