I would like to express my personal appreciation for Emmy Kinter who cared for a former patient. There is no single incident in this patient's experience, but rather just excellent compassionate, conscientious and dedicated care during her stay. Mrs. F is a fragile senior with complex co-morbidity. During her admission, she required a watchful eye following some post-op bleeding, as well as serious fluid management for a chronic low sodium condition.
Most notable to me, however, was Emmy's willingness to work collaboratively with the patient and myself, her medical advocate. Emmy always listened extremely well and trusted and valued our requests for changes in the plan of care. Emmy too patiently offered suggestions and recommendations, but more importantly and always following a discussion, she respected our right to veto a suggestion.
One might see this as just "ordinary" care. But rather, it is extraordinary, compassionate care to a venerable, fragile senior. Emmy is an exceptional kind, hardworking and dedicated Registered Nurse. How lucky we were to have her as part of our team.
