Heather was our night nurse for three nights in the respiratory unit. Our 3-year-old son C was moved from an emergency room to Children's in an ambulance due to pneumonia. This was a new parenting experience for us, and we were very frightened. Heather was extremely kind to all of us, but especially C. She answered all of C's questions in a way he could understand and took the time to listen to him and make him feel comfortable. She also worked hard to calm our parent fears, answer our questions and work with us to come up with a plan and help us get C home.
We felt like Heather took the time to get to know us and remembered our names. She would remember personal things about us and ask about them from day-to-day. Heather seemed to really understand C's medical issues and was on the same page as the doctors. She spoke with confidence and grace and always made us feel very peaceful about what was going on. Heather was meticulous about being clean and ensuring that C was safe and taken care of medically.
When we got Heather again for the third night in a row, I felt like I took a deep breath of gratitude. It was so pleasant to see a familiar face, and someone we trusted. We will never forget what Heather did for our family this week, we are so grateful for her kindness and care. She was one of the best parts of our stay at Children's Hospital.
