Anytime your family member ends up in the ICU, it is traumatic. It is a shock to the system for the patient as well as the family. The entire ICU nursing staff provided excellent care for our mother when she was diagnosed with septic shock. But one, in particular, Maggie Mueller, went beyond excellent and into a phenomenal range of care. Her nursing skills were prompt, expertly provided, and kindly presented. She very creatively worked to provide the maximum amount of comfort to our mother and paid great attention to details. For example, when our mother complained about how cold her feet were, Maggie provided a warm water heating pad. When she finally fell asleep after coughing for hours, she put a sign on the door and ran interference to give her precious sleep. There were many more examples of stellar care - most with Maggie anticipating and providing before we even knew we needed it. There was not a question too small, a need too great, a concern not worth her time to listen to. But even more importantly, Maggie's kind spirit and smile while providing care put our mother at ease and caused us to not only be thankful for her but to become very fond of her. Maggie embodies the qualities all nurses should strive to obtain - quality care as well as the quality of caring. And she does it all effortlessly and with a smile. Thank you, Maggie!
