I had to come to the ED due to back pain. I was at work and my back went out while helping a customer. I was in horrible pain and I was so very much embarrassed. I could not move, sit up or stand due to the pain. I had to have an MRI and Karen took me and had to help me put on another gown. She asked me if I could stand up and I told her I would try. Karen had to help me sit up on the bed. The pain was so bad that I could barely breathe and Karen knew once she had me sitting up that the pain was unbearable. Karen leaned into me, this was her way of letting me know that she was there for me and that I could lean on her. I rested my head on her head and cried. I just needed those few seconds to build up the courage to stand.
There are no words to express how much I appreciated what Karen did for me. I tear up every time I think about it. I could not have done it without her. I stood up and Karen helped me change. She and the ED tech had to take me to another building for the test and I know that Karen didn't have to go. She let the technicians know that I was in pain.
Everyone took great care of me and I am very thankful. I will never, ever forget what Karen did. I will never, ever forget how she made me feel. She took great care of me. She was compassionate and she was there for me. When I think of that day (that day I'd like to forget) I am overcome with emotions and filled with gratitude. Thank you, Karen.
