I am a patient in Cardiology Department and today I'm going to nominate the best nurse I've ever come in contact with - Yang Ying.
She is very reliable, amiable and demonstrates great professionalism at work. She always comes into the ward with a big smile on her face, which brings warmth and consolation to me and helps relieve my anxiety and the uncertainty that comes from the suffering.
I was so nervous when I was admitted to the unit, but she welcomed me with her usual smile and comforted me with her explicit introduction of the environment. I was so worried about my disease that it actually caused me some anxiety, which made my already shallow sleep even worse. I can tell that she checks on us as quietly as she possibly can so as not to disturb our sleep when she is on duty for the night shift, which makes me feel so secure.
Since Yang learned that I'm worried about my condition, she often comes into my room to talk to me. I know from the experience of visiting a hospital that when patients talk, very few medical staff actually listen and the only thing they want to hear is the disease related complaints or symptoms. This unfortunately, gives us the impression that our life doesn't matter at all to them. Yet, Yang, on the contrary, truly cares and she listens when I try to explain the strange things I've experienced. That's all that matters when it comes to the vulnerable period of our lives. She explains in a way I can understand, is ready to answer any questions that bother me, and helps me address problems. I may forget what she did or said after my discharge, but what I will never forget is her attitude and the way she treats me, with full respect and compassion.
Yang is very experienced and seems to know everything about her patients. Right before my "surgery" (percutaneous coronary intervention), I was notified by the hospital that I probably did not have enough money in my account to cover the surgery. This really worried me a lot because just the day before, I had asked my wife to put in the money needed for the surgery. I was very anxious and each time I tried to explain to the workers I got the same response. I did not know what else to do except worry. Yang later came in to remind me about what I needed to do before surgery and caught the clues of my anxiety. She asked if she could help in any way. I told her what happened with my money, and in a strange way, it felt as if my burden had been halved. I saw her make several phone calls and argue sometimes. It turned out there was something wrong with the insurance system and in the end, I did not have to put more money into my account. I appreciate so much that she believed in me and supported me. However, whenever I said something to thank her, she gave me a little smile as if saying that's just what she needs to do—help others. It may seem like little things to her, but her actions helped me relax and focus on healing. She is truly the best nurse I've ever known.
