As a visiting nurse in Neurosurgery Department, I want to nominate Wang Jiayan, RN as the DAISY Award Honoree. She was my teacher during my one-month visit to Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, and she exemplified the qualities needed for the DAISY Award.
Wang Jiayan is very caring and considerate, not only for the patients she serves, but also for her colleagues. She views patients as if they are her family members and she never gives up hope for any patient. I will give you an example to demonstrate how nice she is. A patient who stayed in our unit was very chatty, but also aggressive. Prolonged illness had made him and his family a "doctor". They were very picky about every procedure we did for him. To be honest, I was very afraid of him, which made me reluctant to be his nurse. Even if I were assigned to him, I would choose not to go to his room whenever possible. Ms Wang, however, was totally different. She checked the patient on time and fed the patient very carefully. She never complained about his aggressive behavior when she was his nurse. She clearly explained any procedure to him and his family before she did it and was always ready for their aggressive or even mean questions. She kept the patient and his family updated about the condition he was in. In order to gain the patient's trust, Wang managed to make some extra time for communicating with him and tried her best to provide psychological care. All her efforts paid off and the patient began to view us differently. Our relationship with the patient changed from the "enemy" field to the "friends" zone. The family began to trust us and, of course, every time they saw Wang was on duty, they would be really happy. I am so proud of Wang with her great patience, attentiveness and amazing skills. I sincerely hope that I can eventually be as great a nurse as she is.
Wang is also, a very dedicated person, who loves her job very much. She is always the first one to arrive at work and the last one to leave. Even when she has finished her own duties, but others were busy, she helps without any hesitation. In addition, she is a very knowledgeable person who knows exactly what to do when something goes wrong. Some doctors even came to her for help sometimes. I could never say enough about her. She is really an excellent nurse!
