My father was in the ITU, having suffered an aortic aneurysm. Sarah was on duty and we were instantly struck by the compassion and care she showed to Dad.
It was obvious that Sarah cares deeply for her patients and the thoughtfulness of her actions really showed her professionalism. I'm sure this is the case for the majority of your ITU staff.
However, Sarah, was really exceptional when we had to contribute to the decisions surrounding Dad's future. She was supportive, explaining options and potential outcomes, and helped us through the difficult choices we had to consider. Truly, Sarah was caring for us, as well as Dad.
Sarah never tried to lead our decisions but acted as an impartial adviser at all times. Her support helped us immensely when we really needed it.
In many ways, we were sad Sarah was unable to be with us and Dad at the end of his journey, but her shift ended a while before his did.
I am sure Sarah devotes a similar amount of care to every patient she has, but in our family's view, she is nothing short of amazing.
