My partner and I would like to nominate Jayne Fox (midwife) for her amazing support leading up to and during the delivery of our second son.
We were put in touch with Jayne by my community midwife as I really did not want to have a caesarean. Jayne came to our house to discuss vaginal breech delivery and how this would work. She was able to offer us time, explanation, and reassurance. Jayne came across immediately as a warm, caring person as well as very experienced and knowledgeable.
She offered to be a point of contact for us if we decided to deliver our baby breech. We were also offered an appointment with a doctor to discuss the facts and figures of delivering breech of having a caesarean.
We decided from this that we would like to try to deliver our baby breech if I went into spontaneous labour before 40 weeks.
At 39 weeks, I went into labour and immediately contacted labour ward. I texted Jayne who met us at the labour ward on arrival. She had come in especially to support us. She had set up a room for us and had a team of people to support her (another midwife from the home birth team and a midwife from the labour ward).
Jayne was brilliant throughout my labour and delivery. Despite us being a little anxious about the nature of the delivery, Jayne gave us a sense of confidence and calm.
Jayne supported the sage delivery of our baby boy. For me, the birth was as close to an ideal birth as it could have been and I had a wonderful birth experience, being able to hold my baby immediately after delivery.
We are so grateful to Jayne for supporting us, but in particular, for coming in and being there that night was our son was born. Without Jayne, it is likely that we would have had an emergency caesarean and I would not have had the amazing birth experience that I achieved.
We had excellent care by many staff in the maternity services but Jayne's work was particularly special and unforgettable.
