I am nominating Ms. Shaikah Mohd Al Bishi working as a staff in P2A for going above and beyond to care for her patient on a daily basis and witness daily her compassion for patients.
As many units go, P2A can be quite challenging and she is amazing with all patients and family she encounters. There is one patient who she truly demonstrated such empathy and grace. This young lady was dealing with some very difficult circumstances and has been quite a while. The hospital setting can be extremely stressful for patients and at times tensions run high and care can be difficult. This particular case was quite challenging, enter Shaikah's gentle touch, kind demeanor and most importantly empathy, which allowed this patient to develop trust with the staff on the unit.
During her shifts, the patient opened up about the difficulties she had encountered and she was able to give the patient the care that she needed (by communicating with physicians and case management). Often times the P2A setting can be fast moving and abrasive, honestly quite scary for the patient. She is kind and so full of compassion for all she encounters.
Shaikah was the right person at the right time. On the weekend 5 staffs were absent for the morning duty. She was on the night duty. She can't endorse her patient because only one staff came for morning duty. The rotating manager was not able to arrange pull out or on call. Head nurses and I were notified. We are trying to arrange the staff from 7 am to 10 am. Finally, we were able to arrange only 4 staffs. But Shaikah did not grumble and continued her duty until 3 pm. Even though we told her to go, she did not leave the unit.
