Just this morning I noticed Muslima was late leaving. I went up to her and asked what I could do to help her so she could go home. She said she was finishing her work, but that one of her patients was a DNR and she would not make it through the next shift. She knew the day nurse was going to be very busy. She wanted to fix the patient's hair, change her dressing and her lines and make the room and the patient look nice. I thought this was a very kind gesture.
Most of us are tired at the end of a shift and we are concerned about getting home. She goes the extra mile. She is not only kind to her patients, but she goes out of her way to be an outstanding coworker and peer. She is a mentor to returning nurses and peers. She offers them encouragement to grow and learn.
I have observed her as a pillar of knowledge. During the CBAHI survey, the surveyor was asking for the rights of medication administration. She immediately told the 10 rights within 1 minute. All the leaders were astonished and appreciated her. After that, the surveyor did not ask anything in the unit.
Thank you, Muslima, for going above and beyond to care for our patients and their families in PICU.
