As part of our quality improvement processes and the many audits we do, one of the most informative is the Hourly Round Audit and in particular the comment section on the patient evaluation form which is attached to the DAISY Nomination Form. It is here we receive very valuable insight into our patient's satisfaction, their staff engagement, and their overall patient experience. We're grateful that all our nurses get a mention but one nurse was receiving many more compliments related to his care. Repeated words such as kind, smiling, gentle were used to describe him.
One patient stands out in my mind with which Teody had a profound impact. The elderly patient was admitted following a road traffic accident (RTA) with polytrauma including fracture of left patella, fracture of the radius of the left forearm and bi-malleolar fracture of the right ankle. Following his surgeries, Teody was on duty. He motivated the patient to comply with his rehab, which no one else seemed to be able to do.
With Teody's perseverance and a few schedule changes, the patient walked unaided from the unit upon his discharge. The patient said, "Teody took care of me like I was his father, with kindness and respect."
