Daisy arranges the transfer of all the patients to the OR with a PCA team from the wards. On arrival to holding bay, she greets patients and family members and offers support and information to them about the check-in process for the OR. This is a stressful time and she has an exceptionally calm and gentle manner to reassure and comfort the patients at this stressful time where they leave their family and ward nurse and enter the OR. Her communication is highly professional and her treatment of patients and families is always with dignity and respect.
Daisy recently noticed that a patient for surgery had consent for the wrong side. She calmly reassured the patient that all will be handled well, some documentation needed correction and she contacted the surgeon. The correct side was identified, and consent was corrected. Her approach and attitude were friendly and warm, and extra stress for the patient was avoided. She always reassures and supports patients coming for surgery in the holding bay. It's difficult for family tosee their loved ones enter the OR but she helps them to cope and gives them information they need and answers their questions and concerns. She has a gentle manner which supports patients going in for surgery.
She is a kind, compassionate nurse, and team leader. As the first point of contact for patients and families coming to the operation room, her calm and reassuring professional manner supports them in this very stressful time.
