Jennifer has revamped the Quality and Safety Team with a focus on providing safe, quality, family-centered care to patients throughout the CCU. Her work has empowered the entire team and has led to the development of many interventions the unit has adopted to tackle ongoing issues faced by the unit and hospital including CLABSI, surgical site infections, and unplanned extubations. Jennifer was instrumental in supporting me to take on a role in the quality and safety team. She recognized my interest through my work at the bedside and encouraged me to take on the position. Since then, she has spent a lot of time and been very thoughtful in developing me as a champion and leader on the unit. Jennifer organizes various workshops and other events that allow us to develop our leadership and project management skills. She has encouraged us to take on different projects on the unit and use these skills to produce timely and effective interventions based on improving the quality and safety of care we provide our patients and improve the experience of families in the CCU. Jennifer always takes time to acknowledge and highlight our work, often stepping into the background herself to encourage autonomy and leadership in her team. She is always kind, supportive and encouraging in any way she can. Jennifer has taken on a lot on our unit and is always willing to help - even if it not necessarily something under her purview. As long as it helps the department and improves the care we provide to our children, she is happy to help. I do not think I would be as involved or recognized on my unit if it wasn't for Jennifer. She is not just a great leader, example and role model, but she also fosters this in her colleagues and helps them develop as leaders and professionals themselves.
