This group of dedicated OR nurses in the Plastic Surgery and Craniofacial Division are a group of amazing human beings who happen to be highly educated, compassionate, caring, philosophical, beautiful inside and out, have integrity, grit, humour and have made an impact in the operating room. Many of these nurses have their BSCN as well as their Masters degrees. They have presented at conferences via verbal presentations and posters throughout the years but they go beyond that. They have been integral in Education, practice change, recycling and going Green, Burn Care, Safe Care in the OR, SSIs, and OR renovation. They have set the bar high in day to day care in simple to complex cases from cleft lip and palate, hands, burn care, nevus, brachial plexus repair, gracilis muscle transplants, cross face nerve grafts, corneal reinnervations, lefort surgery, craniosynostosis to name a few. Their drive and determination to reduce costs and increase savings are evident in the way that their run an OR during the day, finish on time or earlier, change their instrument sets to streamline and increase OR efficiency. These women all have the same standard set very high for each other and they teach all the new rotators to their service to deliver the best care possible since that is all that is expected. They are a positive group of individuals cherished by their surgeons who are their fellow teammates and lifelong friends. They are a very special group of ladies since they know that once you are in plastics you strive to stay there and set the bar high. This group of individuals have spouses, children, and families of their own who treat each patient like it is one of their family on the table and in the OR. It has been such a pleasure working with each and every one of these ladies and I feel that they are a special group. They have knowledge, ski, l and judgement and are always available when a coworker comes to the door to ask if they can borrow something. If they are doing a plastics list in another OR they will always attempt to help that individual no matter how busy they are. They should be honoured because of the day to day care that they give their patients from tiny to college age. They work on our department schedules, run the Plastics/Craniofacial/Neuro teams, educate other OR RNs, sit on committees and produce current material for conferences. They are a pleasure to be with and make an impact at Sick Kids everyday.
