I have been spending many days with my sister in the ICU. Nurses come and go - day and evening. The room next door has a male patient. Valerie has been the one nurse who has treated him with the most kindness, not raising her voice, being very patient and positive, not becoming frustrated, and even took the time to play "Paddy cake" with him and made him smile and feel good she has what it takes to work with ICU patients and family members. I heard all of this; Valerie's demeanor is what is needed to be an ICU nurse and she has taken excellent care of this man these past two days as well as excellent care of my sister. She is a true asset to the medical profession and treats patients with respect. I even saw her stand by the male patient's door and took the time to notice he was doing better - that brought her happiness. That is true nursing to me!! Very compassionate!
