Sarah adapts well to every unit she works on which can be confirmed by nurses and patients alike. She is constantly going above and beyond to follow protocols specific to each unit as well as provide her patients with safe and efficient care.
This nurse always has a smile on her face, even with her patients... and you can't forget her laugh! She makes sure not only patients are comfortable but goes above and beyond to make sure the family is updated as well.
Her accurate and up to date charting, as well as her prompt response to patient calls. She advocates for patients to have a smooth hospital to home transition. Because she is float staff, she sometimes will see patients in the ED and then next shift have them on the floors, being able to provide accurate storylines for nurses caring for patients so they have the best care.
Her rooms are always tidy and clean and always stocked with appropriate supplies patients may need. She is kind to staff and patients always.
There was one example where Sarah had a comfort patient and was able to provide the family and patient with a quiet, easy transition from life to death. The family expressed how truly grateful they were for how she kept the patient clean and comfortable even if they were not able to relay their thanks.
She has a very open mind and welcomes all ideas to help patient comfort and safety whether from staff, family, or patients.
She is current in all certifications and is always a resource when on the floors. She can have a broad view of nursing skills because she works on all floors and is always helping other nurses advance their up to date skills.
She is an active advocate in the local sports community helping ref and coach at U. Maine camps. She was a previous coach in the local area and grew up here, so she is a strong advocate for the local communities and Northern Light Health Care system. She has also been a preceptor for many of the international nurses who have come on board and she still serves as a comfortable resource for them as they transition to their new work environments.
Sarah is constantly a pleasant staff member to have on any of the floors as seen by the number of people who know her and state how good her nursing skills are. She is always smiling or laughing and it's contagious to staff and patients. Sarah never leaves her patients with work left for the next shift and she is constantly going above and beyond to make sure her patients are receiving good care. Feel free to ask any night charge nurse in the ED, P6, Grant 4, Grant 5, Grant 6, or even PACU what a great addition she makes to their teams and how they trust her nursing skills.
