One of my patients lost her son to a lethal anomaly. Haley also lost a son, and in talking with me, offered to connect with my patient for support. They connected, Haley helped my patient grieve and heal.
Fast forward, my patient got pregnant again. Haley spent her free time and her own money buying decorations for my patient's labor room to not only celebrate her new son but also to memorialize his brother. My patient was moved to tears. Haley stayed after her shift to help in the patient's C-section, and she held the baby to the patient's breast for an hour because the patient could not stay awake and she knew how important breastfeeding was to her. Haley went above and beyond, not for a shift, or a few days. She spent months of her own time helping our patient, and I know she will continue. Please consider celebrating this selfless nurse.
