I salute Alia for taking care of this difficult patient, displaying calmness and super compassion over many days.
Alia is a very calm and professional nurse who is dedicated to the wellness and comfort of our patients. While she discharges her duties for her own assigned patients, she is willing to come forward to help other team members on the floor. I can understand a charge nurse helping others on the team; but several times a day, I hear Alia's name being called out by others seeking her assistance. These actions also indicate that her coworkers feel comfortable in seeking her help. She can navigate our software so well that even doctors seek her help with the system when they have an issue.
We recently had a patient who stayed with us for a few weeks. He has been through a difficult treatment course making him frustrated, sad, and angry sometimes. This manifested during his interaction with the nursing staff. This resulted in many nurses refusing assignments to this patient (several times after the first shift with him.) Whenever Alia was working, she had no qualms in being assigned to that patient; she had no issues and this patient-nurse pair appeared very comfortable. I salute her for taking care of this difficult patient, displaying calmness and super compassion over many days.
The patient was going home for a few days before returning for further treatment. I happened to be the charge nurse that day. During discharge, the patient asked if he could return to our floor and have the same nurse (Alia); this would make him more comfortable and less anxious while awaiting the return visit. This is a direct result of the compassionate care Alia provided and the nurse-patient relationship she developed.
