It was heartbreaking to learn what this family was going through. Laila told mom that she will ask her co-workers if they could help.
Laila had a patient with special needs. She was a 25-year-old young girl whose mom stayed with her all the time except when she had her own doctor's appointments. On Monday, her mom had a chiropractor's appointment and did not come until the afternoon. Laila called to check on the mom to make sure she was OK. The mom had mentioned she would be back in 1.5 hours. When she came back, she mentioned she had donated plasma to get paid some money which she used to pay for gas and hospital parking. While talking to the mom, Laila got to know that they lost their house due to a fire a few months back and that mom was in a car accident a month ago. It was heartbreaking to learn what this family was going through.
Laila told mom that she will ask her co-workers if they could help. She was able to collect $40. She also spoke with her manager who contributed towards the donation to support the family. Laila also called in dietary to send a guest tray to the mom in the room. Laila spoke to the Case Manager to talk to the mom about outside resources. When Laila was leaving, she also requested the night shift charge nurse if the night shift could contribute and help this mom.
I just wanted to share with you Laila's remarkable show of care and compassion! I know that $40 was not much, but mom told Laila she was able to get gas and pay for parking dues with the money the nurses contributed. I'm very proud of my 2400 team who did not hesitate to help this family!
