Heather took excellent care of me during the most difficult time of my life. Picture me at the age of 62 an independent male diagnosed with COVID-19! A father of 4 girls and a husband of 20 years, admitted to the hospital for the first time not able to breathe. A million thoughts came my way! Am I going to live? Will my family be OK? How is my family going to be financially with me being here unable to work?
Until one day Heather walked into my room to take care of me! Heather was extremely attentive and caring during my stay on 5N. She knew instantly that I was scared of dying. She took care of me with confidence assuring me everything was going to be OK. I was alone and afraid not able to see my family and yet she took care of my emotional needs by providing me comfort.
Heather was my guardian angel that made sure I was able to breathe and did everything in her power assuring me I was OK. One day Heather walked into my room to visit and all she did was hold my hand and told me "Don't give Up! You can do this". I truly felt her comfort and support! She put every effort into showing me that she wanted me to be better and return to my family.
As I struggled to breathe, I wanted to give up and die, however, Heather proceeded to write on my whiteboard with big red letters "You can do this". Every time I felt like giving up, I looked up and saw her positive message. The message was what kept me going!
Throughout my stay on 5N with the 4West staff, I met amazing people taking care of me! However, Heather was one that changed my life! Her caring, compassionate care is what helped me battle this COVID-19.
