It was a very long and difficult day for all of us. During that time, Kelly was an amazing source of peace and calmness while advocating for this baby.
Nomination 1: Kelly is an angel sent from the heavens. I have NEVER met someone as wonderful, kind, compassionate as Kelly. She conducted herself in a very professional manner, always telling you what she is doing. Kelly goes over and beyond her position with real meaning and you know she has the warmest heart. I was so grateful she attended to me. Thank you Kelly from the bottom of my heart, I will NEVER forget you. You are a true gem.

Kelly Allison RN has helped our peds unit on numerous occasions. Recently, one of our 12-month-old oncology patients needed a long IV for chemotherapy. Kelly had a very quick response to my initial message for help. Even after the initial visit, she came to the unit several times going above and beyond to make the patient and the family feel more comfortable. Kelly introduced her ultrasound equipment, she sang to the patient and held her to make her less afraid. She collaborated with me and the parent to create the best plan possible. It was a very long and difficult day for all of us. During that time, Kelly was an amazing source of peace and calmness while advocating for this baby.
This day she had the foresight to see that the doctor's plan could possibly contradict the long-term treatment for this patient. This patient did not have many peripheral veins that could be easily accessed. She found a vessel that she felt she could confidently insert a central line. Even though this would have been more work for Kelly, she stated "it is best for the patient". She educated the family that the central line would save the baby's veins from scaring from the chemotherapy. We called the doctor, who agreed, and a central line was placed.
The PICC placement was challenging but with good communication and teamwork, the patient received her line. Kelly continued her unexpected compassion by holding and soothing her. This also was calming to the mother. Later, I found a painted rock on the counter. I asked the mother about it. She told me that Kelly had painted the rock and gave it to her. The rock was painted with one word, "JOY" and the "O" in joy was a sunflower.
Kelly gave them a sunflower, but I think she is a DAISY. This was not an isolated incident. Kelly is a true example of dedication, professionalism, and mostly compassion. I am honored to work by her side.
