It was obvious that Anna cared deeply for D but also about us and how we coped with this very distressing time.
Our 5-month-old baby boy was at PICU, Glenfield Hospital for 5 days before he passed away. He had severe pulmonary vein stenosis but was only diagnosed less than a week before his death. We were shocked, devastated, and heartbroken by the news. Anna cared for him for 3 of these days. D was intubated and had many cannulas, tubes, and wires all over his body. Anna went out of her way to make sure that D was as comfortable as possible given the situation, and that all our questions and concerns were answered. She tried to involve us as much as possible in D's care, helping us to make the most of the last few days with him. Small gestures, like her choosing a nice blanket for him each day, or her pulling the curtain around him so we could have more privacy or her reassuring us that we could have him out for cuddles (in spite of the massive hassle it's been to move him) made such a difference to us in how we spent this very limited but precious time with D. She made an extra effort to make keepsakes like hand and footprints and take photos of D for us to have as memories. It was obvious that she cared deeply for D but also about us and how we coped with this very distressing time. The mixture of professionalism and her compassion made such a difference in these last precious days with our baby.
