Our stay will be a lengthy one, but I feel comfort in knowing Emily will be with us along this journey and I look forward to the day we're discharged and can hopefully still maintain a friendship.
Our 15-year-old daughter was admitted over a month ago to the PICU. She's still a patient within the PICU but has begun making some positive moves towards recovery. Emily was one of the first nurses we had and her kind spirit positive words and tenacious way of caring for our daughter was evident since day 1. Emily has gone above and beyond while following our daughter around the unit and even following her to the CICU when our daughter unexpectedly had to be placed on ECMO. Her thoroughness, genuine love, and caring for our daughter has been so amazing to bear witness to. Emily at one point shared that her cousin also has Down Syndrome so sharing the similarities the love for life and the overall beautiful souls these individuals have has been a great bond to have. Every day that I have gone in to visit our daughter, I always look forward to Emily being her nurse. I feel at ease when our daughter is in her care and don't fear leaving her as I know she's in the greatest hands. I have strongly felt and seen Emily's compassion, strong work ethic, and ability to explain things in a way that is easily understood from a parent's standpoint. At one point, Emily was going to be off for a few days and wrote a heartfelt message on the window to me about our daughter and just how incredible of a fighter she is. Our stay will be a lengthy one, but I feel comfort in knowing Emily will be with us along this journey and I look forward to the day we're discharged and can hopefully still maintain a friendship. We've had great medical staff throughout our stay at CHCO, but Emily is a fantastic nurse that deserves the recognition of just how superb she truly is.
