Jessica feared that the young girl would be scared of the sights and sounds of the patient dying. Jessica took the young girl with her into her cubby and sat and colored with her.
Jessica had a younger male patient who was planning to go home on hospice, however, the patient had a decline, and the family decided on comfort care. The patient had a 9-year-old daughter who came in to be with him, while he was passing. When it was getting towards the end, Jessica feared that the young girl would be scared of the sights and sounds of the patient dying. Jessica took the young girl with her into her cubby and sat and colored with her. Jessica also searched and worked all day to get a stuffed animal for the young girl. Once she finally tracked on down she gave it to the little girl and told her, her dad had bought it for her the previous day, and he wanted her to have it and remember him. This is just one example of how Jessica cares, not only for her patients but for the family, as well. As a mother, Jessica did everything in her power to provide comfort and ease the horrible situation of a parent dying. This little girl may not remember or know what Jessica did, but Jessica's actions made an impact.
Note: This is Jessica's 2nd DAISY Award!
