Molly Brennan deserves some recognition for her excellent compassionate nursing skills. Working with Molly, it is evident that she has a big heart and really enjoys taking care of her patients. One special occasion clearly stands out.
One of Molly's patients sadly found out he did not qualify for a transplant on his birthday. Determined to make his birthday special in spite of the bad news, Molly decided to surprise him and his wife by throwing him a mini birthday party at the bedside with a birthday card and a cake, they even celebrated by singing him Happy Birthday with the nursing staff and doctors.
This little surprise lifted the patient's spirits in such a difficult time by making him laugh and even wanting to take pictures with the staff. I think the most heartwarming part was that aside from the party, Molly took the time to listen and talk with him about what awaited him in heaven and his concerns about dying. She definitely made a strong impression on him that he even told her he was going to remember her for the rest of his life and ended by giving her a hug.
It takes a very strong and kind person to have that kind of conversation. Although the final outcome did not change, Molly did provide a great heartfelt impression on him and created one last good memory for him before he transitioned to comfort care. I find it incredible and admirable that she managed to uplift someone on their special day after such awful news.
Thank you, Molly, for being such a great nurse and for doing something special for your patient on their birthday and not letting it go unnoticed. It is a pleasure to work alongside you and your kind heart.
