Forrest gives courtesy and compassion in some of their most tragic, stressful times, and assured all that we are providing the very best of care to their loved one.
Forrest is an example to his fellow nurses and leads by example. He stays calm in chaotic situations and is able to lead his team through stressful situations with confidence and level headed decision making, which is needed in these instances to gain the trust and confidence of his team.
Forrest has gained the trust of his fellow staff nurses and is looked to for guidance from both ICU and other acute and critical care units. Forrest is always willing to help and often assists acute care with starting IVs and making critical decisions for Rapid Response Team calls. It has been noted by other units that they appreciate when Forrest is charging in ICU because he checks on them periodically to ensure that things are going okay.
Recently, Forrest went to the Cardiac Cath Lab to assist with an unstable patient. He is always willing to help other areas and offer his clinical knowledge to best serve the patients we care for. During a Rapid response call to the Med Surg floor, Forrest worked with the interdisciplinary team and attending physicians to get a patient expediently transferred to the ICU, critical blood products started and stabilized enough to be taking to interventional radiology for a life-saving intervention. All the while, Forrest was calm and updating the girlfriend of the patient, as well as the patient on what the plan of care was and what was being done.
This is not the only instance where Forrest has gone out of his way to ensure that families and patients are kept apprised of the plan of care, given courtesy and compassion in some of their most tragic, stressful times, and assured all that we are providing the very best of care to their loved one. Recently, Forrest was assigned to a pediatric patient who had a catastrophic event, which led to his passing. Forrest was supportive of the family who was present, as well as able to give the mother who drove in from out-of-state time to be with her son and grieve. The family returned after the young man's memorial and visited the ICU, OR, and ED to express their gratitude for the care they and their son received, expressly Forrest's care and compassion.
