Ellen Potter is an extraordinary nurse! She earned her BSN from Resurrection University and graduated with honors. After graduation, she was hired as a staff nurse in a level II Nursery and on a Mother/Baby unit. Ellen wanted to expand her scope of practice to L&D. She interviewed for our open L&D position. Ellen was quickly hired, as we knew she would be a great asset to our Family Birthplace team.
From day one in L&D, Ellen brought energy, a positive attitude, and a high level of professionalism to each shift! Her preceptor bragged about what a great L&D nurse she would become. Her preceptor was absolutely correct! She has compassion and kindness like very few others. She immediately builds a rapport with her patients during labor and trust develops that leads to amazing outcomes. She has received associate of the month nominations and DAISY nominations. Her patients and family members rave about the care she provided. Within all of the nominations the main theme her patients share in their stories is how attentive and caring Ellen was, and how she treats them like a family member. Ellen makes an extra effort to visit patients on her next scheduled shift to praise and congratulate them. During labor, she encourages her patients to do more than they ever thought possible. Her magic prevents them from getting discouraged and giving up!
Ellen's L&D clinical skills are exceptional.
In 2020 she has become a preceptor herself. She is a self-made EPIC super user! She is never too busy to help a co-worker. In fact, she has been pulled to Special Care Nursery more than any other nurse. Even in the most critical situations, Ellen has volunteered to change her patient assignment to assist in SCN. She has picked up numerous extra shifts in SCN to support the team during the toughest of staffing situations. Ellen has a passion for learning and is dedicated to being the best nurse she can possibly become.
In 2018 and 2020 she attended and successfully completed the S.T.A.B.L.E. (stabilization & care of sick infants) program. Ellen earned the National Certification Inpatient Obstetric Nurse in 2019. It is through education and effort that Ellen has helped improve outcomes for our moms, babies, and families!
In 2020 the year of the pandemic, Ellen had a bright idea. She wanted to show appreciation and support for the RMC ED nurses for their countless sacrifices working during COVID-19 peak admissions. She led a fundraiser with the Family Birthplace staff in order to assemble baskets of treats for the RMC ED team. The Family Birthplace received so many donations that they were able to make care baskets for every department at RMC. Ellen was the nurse that went to Costco and purchased all the goodies for the baskets with the donations. Under the leadership of Ellen, the team came together on their Saturday off duty to assemble the baskets and distribute them throughout the hospital.
Ellen is truly a DAISY Nurse. She demonstrates a caring attitude in all situations. She has excellent clinical skills and delivers her care in the most compassionate manner. She gives 200% and always makes a special connection with her patients and their families. She exemplifies the mission, vision, and values of Amita Resurrection Medical Center! She provides extraordinary care to all her patients!
