Steve has encouraged an environment of teamwork and community on our unit. He never leaves his unit without support physically and mentally.
I can honestly say I've never had a manager as great as Steve. He is always willing to step in and get his hands dirty on the floor with us; day and night. Always receptive to our needs and concerns, and makes me proud to be with the ICU team.

Steve shows commitment to our patients by his overwhelming commitment to his staff. He talks to us, leads by example. He gives us all the opportunity for success. He is here morning and night to support our unit and it makes a difference!
***
He goes above and beyond to be an advocate and a leader for his staff. He is not afraid to push up his sleeves and help his unit. He is respected by the staff members. He takes care of any issues that arise in a timely manner. He is absolutely the best director I have ever worked for. He is a breath of fresh air.

Steve has encouraged an environment of teamwork and community on our unit. He never leaves his unit without support physically and mentally. He has taken patient assignments, placed IVs, passed medications, and helped with patient turns more times than I can count. He is who I want to work alongside at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Steve comes in when we are short and helps. He cares about his staff. Open door policy; he listens to our concerns and there to solve problems. He's very considerate.
***
Steve always goes out of his way to help in the ICU department. He is our Clinical Director and if we're short RNs, he is always jumping in and help; even working night shifts.

8Steve goes above and beyond for his nurses. When we are extremely short-staffed, he will give up his time with family to help on nights so we can give adequate patient care and not get completely burnt out.
***
Steve isn't afraid to jump in and help his staff when we are drowning. One example of this was we had a shift with only 3 RNs. Steve came in and took a full patient load for the entire shift. He has also helped me get a patient to CT when transport was backed up. Steve has been very supportive of his staff when they come back from maternity leave. He has found spots for us to pump during our shifts; when those spots got taken away, he offered his office for us. He also takes the time to listen to his staff about any concerns we have. He has been a great Nurse Leader for Critical Care.

Steve is the best manager I have ever had. On numerous occasions, Steve has come in when we were short-staffed in the middle of the night, after working all day - to come to assist with patient care. At times, persons in a manager position back away from patient care and Steve is never afraid to touch up on his skills and take complete care of a patient, or get his hands dirty helping another team member with a patient. He is always asking if there are any issues that he can address and then returning quickly with answers. He almost always makes it a point to round in the morning before night shift leaves. Also, always rounds with a smile and a good attitude!

Steve came in during his time off as manager of this unit because he knew that we were short-staffed RNs. Steve took patients and worked the floor after having worked as manager all day.

We were having a particularly hectic and busy nightshift one day. We were short-staffed, had 3 patients who were one-on-ones, and had a couple of float RNs. We had several patients who were decompensating and required a lot of time and attention and kept getting admissions to where several RNs were tripled up. Steve came in on a night shift, over the weekend at 10 pm to provide assistance to us, ensure patients are in a safe environment and took patients from other nurses so that we could admit more patients from the ED. Steve is an incredible supervisor for being willing to come in on a nightshift over the weekend to help out his nurses. He is a true DAISY Nurse Leader not only because his actions on this night went above and beyond what seems to be the norm for unit managers, but also because this is something he does and is willing to do on a regular basis. It is reassuring to know that our boss supports us and has our back with his words and actions.
