Unit/Department Perioperative Services Staff
Please describe a specific situation or story that clearly demonstrates how this nurse made a meaningful difference in your care.
I understand everyone in Bayhealth worked above and beyond the call of duty during this time. some did get to stay within their comfort zone Not the Staff in Perioperative Services. Perioperative
Services is a specialty area and our nursing competencies and skill sets are different than other areas of the hospital. A large portion of the periop staff has been redeployed to multiple locations thorough out the organization during the current COVID 19 Pandemic.
Many did come from other locations with more recent experience, but ALOT who were redeployed have not! Nurses with up to 35 years of past experience were brought to the front lines to help. The clinical RNS and Surgical Techs had to be retrained to support our community and our nursing colleagues. Staff were taken out of the world of Perioperative nursing and put in to unfamiliar skills and documentation. Scheduling staff became communication techs, OR, ENDO, DS and PACU RNs deployed to the ED, ICU, IMCUs and units to work. Some supported the staffing office with deployment of their own peers for the hospital, Operations support worked with CMT, SurgiCenter staff deployed to the floors,. OR Leaders planning to scrub and or circulate in the OR after years of being away from this skill set. They were all scared but did the job with pride and "faced their fears" of this new unknown. Some of my best experiences scared me the most, and I know this will be true for my team as we look back on all we were able to do when we supported each other.
