I am writing this letter to expand on the professional and caring treatment I received during my stay at Lankenau Medical Center from the nursing staff. During my stay, one nurse who left me with a lasting impression, and I feel the need to bring to your attention, is Shirly Kurian. I am not a person who, shall we say, wears my emotions on my sleeve; however, after a short time, I got the feeling that Shirly understood and realized that I was disheartened and disappointed in my body's newly demonstrated weaknesses and concerned about what the future was now going to look like. Shirly responded to every query I would present regarding my medications or whatever other concern I posed to her. Though I understand that I was far from the only patient under her care at any given time, Shirly seemed to always find time to explain, listen, and clarify my concerns to the point I was satisfied with. Her care during my hospitalization demonstrated every characteristic of a career professional in her field.
If you are ever looking for a role model who could mentor new nursing staff members, I would highly recommend Shirly. She certainly went above and beyond.
