I have never seen someone so calm and reassuring as his nurse, Vicki. She took as much time as needed to make him feel safe.
My 17-year-old son has autism and is extremely fearful of needles. He's had several instances where he's had to have an IV or injection and the staff has always had to hold him down in order to get the job done. Now at 6'2" and 200 lbs, it's getting harder to restrain him.
Vicki made him so relaxed and explained everything so well that he was actually comfortable (as well as could be expected) and did extremely well with the IV. I have never seen someone so calm and reassuring as his nurse, Vicki. She took as much time as needed to make him feel safe. I can't tell you how much I appreciate her compassion and understanding of his situation and everything she did to make it easy for all of us. It's hard to raise kiddos with disabilities and I'm grateful that there are nurses who actually understand their fears instead of rushing through to "get it over with".
She made a potentially difficult situation easy by being a wonderful human being and an excellent nurse. We are blessed to have had this experience here today!
