Brooke called me at 4:16 pm to inform me that I had the green light to go up to see my mother in law. Her words were: "I can't wait to see you". Talk about compassion, efficiency, and going the extra mile for a patient!
Brooke was indeed very special, so special that I think of her and yearn for her every time I visit my mother in law, E, at ORMC for the past 7 days! Not only did she display compassion and understanding of the need for the presence of a loved one for my mother in law, but she also had compassion for me too! I was not on my mother in law's designated visitor list. Admission/reception denied my visit and mentioned that even if they managed to get my name placed on the list, it would be the following day before I could visit my mother in law. My husband called Brooke and explained my predicament. Brooke called me at 3:53 pm to wait at the reception because she would help me immediately with getting a clearance just so my mother in law could see me! Very soon after, Brooke called me at 4:16 pm to inform me that I had the green light to go up to see my mother in law. Her words were: "I can't wait to see you". Talk about compassion, efficiency, and going the extra mile for a patient! And what a welcoming statement to hear, is this not part of "passion for nursing", a highly admirable and desirable attribute. At my mother in law's bedside, Brooke was patient, cheerful, lighthearted, and sweet with my mother in law when she was complaining and repeating that she wanted to go home and some of her statements were confusing and did not make any sense. Brooke just went along. It was such a pleasure to watch Brooke interact and take care of my mother in law, to be able to leave with a certain level of assurance that my mother in law would be very well taken care of by Brooke. I certainly wish there was a Brooke on every floor! Thank you, Brooke, even though, and sadly, it was just one day.
