On June 4, 2016, a patient came in symptomatic and was found to be dissecting from the level of the aortic arch to his carotids. He was a 1:1 in the midst of a busy department. The nurse manager was still in the department, off of the clock, when she was asked to ride with the transport team to SNGH in order to titrate BP medications which was almost on a minute by minute basis. The entire ED team helped in one way or another. While the primary nurse was in the room with the patient, other staff backfilled her assignments and assisted with transfers.
The ED physician, who was off duty at the time of transport, accompanied the transport team to SNGH as well. The team helped keep the patient stable during transport which ultimately led to his survival. What a complete team effort!
