I was in to have my foot reconstructed. I had many complications after including needing 3 blood transfusions. It was supposed to be a one-day surgery and I ended up staying 4 days. Aside from the pain and general not feeling well after surgery due to the complications, I was very nervous and scared as well. I had great care from all of my nurses and nurses' assistants but Peter went above and beyond. He made sure that not only was I taken care of medically but put just as much care and compassion into taking care of me mentally and emotionally.
He was very easy to talk to and that helped me relax and feel very comfortable in a very tense situation. He always made sure to ask me if I was doing OK and that I had everything I needed. If I needed something he would get it himself right away. He would joke around and lighten the mood to try and make me feel better. He was also very good at answering any medical questions I had and if he didn't know the answer right then he would go and get it and never forgot to come back and tell me.
I could tell that he takes his job very seriously and genuinely cares about his patients and their overall care not just the medical side of it. He made a very unpleasant situation a great deal more bearable. I truly believe that he is an exceptional very intelligent nurse and a fantastic and caring person. He was able to ease my mind because I knew when he was taking care of me I didn't need to worry because he was on top of everything.
I wish I could do more to thank him and let him know that I will be forever grateful for the care I received from him and I will never forget it. Without him it would have been a lot more difficult to get through the whole hospital stay. His level of care will be what I use to measure other caregivers in the future. He deserves to be acknowledged for not only the fantastic job he did and does but also for the great person he is.
