After an unexpected 2nd surgery on my father's leg, we landed in ICU. Carolyn was dad's nurse on the 2nd day, the unit was busy. Overall my dad was stable compared to other patients, but my dad was not himself after blood loss and 2 rounds of anesthesia in only 48 hours. Being an only child; I carry all the weight on my shoulders concerning my father who is widowed. After days of little sleep and worry I began to have a breakdown. I tried to hide it, but Carolyn noticed right off. She stopped her charting, she knelt bedside me, talked to me as the daughter, mother, wife, and nurse who had so much to deal with. Those 15 minutes of her time is exactly what I needed. I am nurse of 19 years and I appreciate the kindness she gifted me. Her advice lifted me. Her advice will ring in my heart always.
