I have worked with Lissa for quite some time now on Wesley's Perinatal Bereavement Team. She has always showed compassion for every family during the worst time of these parents' lives, losing their newborn children. Recently an infant passed away and the grandmother requested memory photographs to be taken, even though she was unsure whether mom would want to see the photos. The infant's bedside nurse took photos for the family. They dressed the baby in a soft blue gown and wrapped him in a blue and white checkered blanket. The infant's mother called a few days later asking if photos were taken of her baby boy. She had decided she wanted to see the photos. Lissa did some searching and calling around to the bedside nurse and found that the photos were taken but then accidentally deleted off the camera before they were given to parents. Lissa was heartbroken for these parents as those were the only images they had of their newborn son. She took it upon herself, during her scheduled work day, to check and see if baby was still within the hospital. The baby was located in the hospital morgue. Lissa went to the morgue and carried baby to a private room to retake the pictures for the family. The original bedside nurse kept a memory box of the infant's things to give to parents as keepsakes; a blanket, a special outfit, a hat and booties, the comb the nurse used to fix his hair, and footprints. Lissa found the memory box and redressed him in the exact same clothes so parents had the clothes their son had worn in his short life.
This is one small act of kindness Lissa has done for the bereaved families of Wesley Healthcare. Lissa is an excellent role model, sharing her passion for caring for others during their time of need. We are so blessed to have her be a part of the Wesley Perinatal Bereavement Team.
