Jessica was nominated by the family of a Neuro-trauma patient, P. They nominated her for the DAISY award for her respect, compassion, teamwork, and clinical experience. Jess always spoke directly with P, explaining what she was doing as she went - even when we didn't know if he could hear her. She would speak with a soothing voice that calmed him down and encouraged him during tough times. Jess was so kind and compassionate to my family. I felt like she was our coach through the most difficult days. She would make sure I was near P when he needed me; she suggested peppermint oil on his feet and music in the room. This gave me something I was able to do and helped me be more support for P. She told us then to cut back on guests and suggested the family play cards in his room to provide some normal atmosphere.
Jess was so good at shift changes and made sure the new staff was fully aware. She took her time and always allowed enough time. She made suggestions on P's care to colleagues and doctors. The respect and teamwork was apparent in their interactions. When she wasn't P's main nurse, she would still help out and check in. She was a very positive influence on P and the entire family.
Jess was so knowledgeable and professional about the vent, medicines, everything. My husband said it was like watching a pianist as she "played" all the equipment with expertise and confidence.
