Anne and I met last night after I was hospitalized. I had been assigned a hospital room in the pediatric department. Secretly I wished for a nurse that would leave the heavy feelings out in the hand washing station outside of my door. Anne did just that. Anne asked about my pain and nausea and she truly listened! My dad used to say these rare but invaluable nurses were angels in scrubs and their halos were their stethoscopes. Anne is an angel nurse. Anne truly listened to me and asked about my pain, she not only made sure I was comfortable but she also advocated for a change in protocol for an adult patient not to follow the same medication administration as the pediatric patients. Anne walked over to me and gave me a hug, which is exactly what I needed. She deeply cares about her patients. Anne has a true gift. City of Hope is truly lucky to have her!
