As healthcare providers, the actions that are taken may seem all in a day's work. While these actions go above and beyond and are filled with compassion, Cindy routinely exhibits these efforts daily. Once while caring for an elderly patient, she reached out to the family for an update, with the patient's permission of course. In speaking to the family, she realized how grave the potential outcome was. When asked by the family if they should come, Cindy responded with empathy that if it was her mother she would drop everything and come. Cindy provided her patient compassion and reassurance that she had spoken to her family before her CareFlight trip to Reno. Nurses often never know the outcome and impact they may have had; but it was not so in this case. The daughter took the time to bring a card to the hospital and share their unending thanks for the three precious days she got to spend with her mother before she passed, because she did as she said: dropped everything to come from California to Reno to share three memorable days with her mother. Those three days will be held in this woman's heart forever. Her appreciation for this remarkable gift that Cindy gave her was evidenced when she stopped by to see her, hug her, and tell her thank you for a priceless gift. What Cindy does so very often by treating her patients and their families just as she would want to be treated, routinely deeply impacts the patients and families she encounters with her wonderful smile and compassionate heart.
