Cindy was caring for an elderly blind patient preparing her for surgery. Her elderly husband of 63 years was with her and was her primary caregiver as they had no children or family that lived close by. After the patient was safely prepared for surgery and taken to the OR, Cindy personally took it upon herself to assure that the husband was cared for just as well as the wife. Cindy gathered a wheelchair, all the personal belongings and took the belongings and helped him get everything locked up safely during surgery. Cindy then proceeded to wheel the husband to the cafeteria because he had not had any breakfast. She helped him collect his food, she paid for his food, wheeled him back to the surgery area and set his food tray up so that he could eat and be close to the surgical area while his wife was in surgery. Cindy went the extra mile to make sure this couple was attended to as she would have wanted her parents to be taken care of in a similar situation. I can only hope that my loved ones will have a nurse with such empathy and loving spirit when needed.
