When a patient was required to remain in the hospital on her 40th wedding anniversary, Diane Joswiak came in on her day off to help make that day even more special for the patient.
When the patient learned she would not be going home on her 40th anniversary due to her medical diagnosis, she explained to Diane that she and her husband usually went to Main Street Café in Bloomer to enjoy a nice dinner and slice of pie every year for their anniversary. Knowing Main Street Café doesn't deliver, Diane came in on her day off and delivered dinner to them.
"I knew it was special to her, and I wanted to help in any way I could," says Diane. "I would do that for any of my patients if that meant making their day, especially an important one, even better." The patient later told other Medical/Surgical employees that Diane's token of generosity made her hospital stay more bearable and that she didn't feel like she was missing out on her and her husband's special day.
"There are a lot of nurses on the Bloomer staff who go above and beyond," says Diane. "I was recognized for this one act, but we all do things like that. I truly work with an amazing team."
