I would like to nominate ER nurse Kimberly Brown to receive a DAISY Award for exceptional nursing care. I brought my mother into the Emergency with complications from congestive heart failure. We were taken to a room and immediately greeted with a spirited hello and a big smile. Kimberly Brown told us that she had the pleasure of caring for my mother. She introduced us to a new nurse who was in training with her - Jamie Page. I found out that she was helping Jamie during her orientation phase. Kimberly was careful to include Jamie in the care and let her participate. They were like a tag team duo.
As you know it is never a fun experience going to the ER. You are sick, you are stressed out, you are worried, it wasn't planned, and the list goes on and on. But, Kimberly made us feel like we had checked into the Ritz Carlton based on her exceptional care. The first thing you notice is her big smile. Her face just shines and her attitude conveys that she is the happiest person in the world.
She was very concerned about Mom and immediately set out to get her comfortable and to begin all of the things that needed to be done. Drawing blood is difficult on my mom as she has small veins that blow regularly. Kimberly said there was no need to worry because she was a pro at finding shy veins. She said she could get them every time, and she did!
In my opinion, the following qualities are required to be an exceptional nurse. You must have passion to serve others. You must feel like you can help people, even those with tough problems. You must believe that every patient is the most important patient. You must show care and concern to the patient and to the family. Kimberly did all of these things during our visit. She is an outstanding nurse and trainer of our future nurses. She took wonderful care of my Mom and we greatly appreciate it.
