Megan is a wonderful nurse who is focused and family-centered care. Megan and I were recently on a team that was caring for a palliative/hospice care infant. As a member of the palliative care team in the NICU, Megan was very aware of what she could do to make this painful time a more positive experience for the family. She took the time to do activities and crafts with the family so they could have mementos. She included the family in all of the care that she provided and she never hesitated to carry out the family's wishes, as appropriate. Finally, she took the time to sit with the family and speak with them, sometimes for an hour or more. The family was able to talk about fears and successes and memories. They became more comfortable with the situation that they found themselves in and it was largely the excellent care and communication that Megan provided that helped the family make decisions for their baby. Megan made an incredible difference in the quality of care that was provided to this family and their baby and she truly deserves recognition for her compassionate service.
