My husband had two appointments in Gainesville, one with ENT at 10 am and the other at 1:30 in CT. It takes me three hours one way to get to Gainesville. Because of a stroke, my husband can't drive so I have to. We got done with ENT about 10:30 which was fast. We did not know what we could do to kill the time because my husband was NPO for the CT so we decided to just go around to CT check in and wait. I told nurse Tammy I knew we were way early and we would just sit there. She told me that was fine and she would go ahead and start my husband's IV line that if the people in the back had a spot they would call him back. Luckily, they did, and we were on the road and heading home before our appointment time, thanks to Tammy. She was smiling, checking in back to see how things were going, checking on people waiting to make sure everyone was okay. She never stopped. That day I did not get here name but weeks later we had another appointment. When we passed the doorway, there she was working just as hard.
We stopped and asked for her name. Tammy was very helpful, compassionate, knew her job very well, started the IV with one try which made my husband very happy. We do travel to Gainesville a lot so we deal with a lot of staff there. We have always been very happy with his care in Gainesville and on that day Tammy made out day great for going the extra mile in helping us. To us, Tammy McCray is a real VA ICARE and DAISY Nurse.
