Cheryll has gone above and beyond to see that I had exceptional anesthesia care over my two procedures and major surgery. She has been my primary CRNA since my health concerns started. Not only did she support me and make me feel safe, she supported my family every step of the way.
I was first scheduled for an emergent ERCP. Cheryll had been assigned to my case and called to make sure I was ok with her accessing my medical record.Already stressed that I had to have general anesthesia, this call was a welcome relief and I already felt safe. She knew me as a person, immediately listened to my concerns and fears, and immediately put my mind at rest.I woke up from anesthesia and was ready to order new shoes. The anesthesia that I was so afraid of was smooth. Cheryll followed up after the procedure and continued to support me.
Unexpectedly, I needed a second procedure a few months later.I contacted Cheryll to see if she could again be my CRNA.She said yes, but needed to change her schedule to accommodate my request. Again, she put my mind at rest and the anesthesia experience was smooth.Unfortunately, the outcome was not the one that I expected. After I heard I had cancer and that I needed a Whipple, I don't remember much. While the surgery was getting scheduled fast, Cheryll agreed to be on the case, again causing scheduling changes on her part.
Cheryll was again my CRNA.Having such a huge surgery and still not a fan of general anesthesia, I felt totally confident and comfortable with Cheryll at my side.I knew she was not going to leave my side for the entire duration of the case.At the holding area where I met her, I relaxed.I do not remember anything except her voice as I emerged from the anesthesia. It is Cheryll's care and compassion towards my family that demonstrates the characteristics of a DAISY Nurse.
While in the recovery room, Cheryll texted my husband to see how I was doing. Not being a health care professional, he had questions as to what was happening and if it was normal. She checked on me and reassuredmy husbandthat what was happening was normal after the large surgery I had just had. Before she left for the day, she checked on me and checked again once she got home.Cheryll continued to follow up. Her outstanding care of not only me but also my family makes her so deserving of this award.
