At 7 am I went to assess my patient who was a very sick kid in the PICU. I knew it was going to be a busy morning, but the entire floor was busy as well, so I was nervous that if my patient went south, I would be with minimal support. My patient coded at 0830, very emotional situation, parents were terrified, our whole team of docs, residents, RT support, and I were at the bedside.
Immediately Jen dropped everything she was busy doing and was in that room as if it were her own patient and her own child, doing everything she could to help save her. This baby coded for a total of 3 hours off and on, and Jen never left her side. Unfortunately the baby expired, but Jen was so helpful to me, the family, the code team, and all around the best support I could ask for in a team mate. She never shies away from helping others, always encouraging us to learn more, and pushes for us to work together as a Team better than any leader I've had in the 10 years I've been a nurse.
To me, Jen is an idol. To her, she is just doing the best job she can. She makes a difference every day in a child's life when she is here, and she makes a difference in mine too.
