The quality of care Mary demonstrated was superb and considering this is a new unit, I strongly felt that the hospital administration made a truly wise decision by placing her on this unit so early in her hiring. I commend the administrative staff for that fact alone. This will always be a top-notch unit with Mary here because of her strong medical knowledge, knowledge of patient care, kindness, consideration, strong bedside manners, safety practices, hospital practices, and ethical behavior. I'm sure Mary will continue her education in the medical field and I hope and sincerely pray that you make her a strong consideration for upper management nursing positions. Most of all, I feel she is the most deserving recipient of the DAISY Award.
Mary's service was more than excellent. It was outstanding. She took the time out of her normal duties to provide me with information relating to my illness whereas, she highlighted pertinent areas to be pinpointed and then took the time to go over each page with great care. She made medical jargon seem as simple as the ABC's. I'm suffering from breast cancer and have had the strange feeling that it has spread to my stomach. Mary showed me an area of my stomach where what I have been feeling totally makes sense as to what my symptoms are. She probably has saved my life and pinpointed the area where I can finally tell my oncologist to provide testing.
As she dispensed my dedication, she showed me a chart where side effects may be possibly felt. THAT WAS INVALUABLE! I came in with the fear of not getting along with some of the nurses and doctors. The instant Mary introduced herself to me, the pain and fear vanished. I was able to calm down and start to get better.
Her care for me was shown with the utmost compassion. She always always had a smile (with beautiful teeth) and checked on me regularly without my having to push the call button. Her bedside manners were impeccable.
