Melissa is truly the definition of what a nurse is. I was rounding on her patients and as I was concluding my talk with one patient, I asked him if there was anything else he needed. He said "yes, I would like a haircut. Do they do that here?" I told him we do not have people here at the hospital but we could wash and comb his hair. I came out and told Melissa his request and she asked me if I could watch her patients while she took her lunch break. Thirty minutes later she came back with hair clippers and scissors. Melissa used to be a cosmetologist. She drove home and got her items to cut this man's hair. He had been in ICU for some time and I never saw a bigger smile on a patient's face. She never complains about anything. Even when she gets a 3rd patient or 2 admissions. She is always helping co-workers, precepts' new employees and is doing relief charge and does a fabulous job. I am so happy to have her as a co-worker in MICU!
